More about WeatherVigil

The weather station (Weather Vigil) is running on a Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop computer, installed in the club house.
It runs Windows XP, and Mike Ford's WeatherVigil version 1.6 software. The broadband connection is provided by Qnet, of Stockton, through a BT line.

The Oregon Scientific WMR 968 weather station is located just by the laptop and is connected by a serial cable.

The main weather station detectors are on the roof, connected to the Weather Station by radio links.
- wind speed and direction
- rainfall (rate and daily total)
- exterior temperature and humidity

There is also a small internal sensor near the weather sation which measures:
- internal temperature and humidity
- barometric pressure.

Finally an AXIS 2110 network camera is linked to the PC

Data is collected every minute from the weather station and every 15 minutes fom the AXIS camera.
There is a local display of the weather data on a remote screen in the Clubhouse. This updated every minute.
Every 15mins the WeatherVigil software generates web pages and uploads them, along with the latest webcam picture, to this web-site.

As it currently shares the only phone line into the Club House, we will limit the access to the following: Non-sailing days: Full data at 00.00, 06.00, 12.00, 18.00 Wednesday and Friday: Extra hourly uploads of wind and temperature data from 11.00 to 19.00 Saturday and Sunday: Extra hourly uploads of wind and temperature data from 08.00 to 18.00 The webcam uploads pictures hourly during daylight hours, and occasionally at night if it is fooled by a car headlight into thinking that the sun is rising! When we have a dedicated phone line we will increase the rate of uploads. We also believe that Broadband may now be available in the area, in which case we can provide a much more frequent and reliable update service.
